CRUSADERS DROP TWO ON SATURDAY

Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville volleyball team fell to 5-23 overall and 3-10 in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday after falling to Belmont Abbey 3-0 and Claflin University 3-1 in Hayes Gymnasium. 


The Crusaders battled hard against the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey who are now riding a 13 game win streak after Saturday’s win over NGU. The North Greenville fell to Belmont Abbey but was solid on the offensive side of the net, finishing the day with a .273 hitting percentage. Belmont finished with a .293 average. 


Belmont Abbey finished the day taking the three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-20. NGU finished the first set with a game high .360 hitting percentage, while Abbey edged the Crusaders with a .390 percentage. Yomi Adeyeye led North Greenville with 14 kills in the first match, while Elizabeth James dished out 33 assists. Hannah Helbert added 12 kills while also leading the Crusaders with 11 digs. 


The Crusaders looked to bounce back in game two, but fell behind Claflin early, after the Panthers took a 25-20 set one win. NGU bounced back in set two, and won their first of the day, with an impressive 25-19 triumph. Rachel Burts led the way during the second frame four kills. Burts finished with 10 kills during game two for NGU. 


The Panthers would go on to take 25-23 set three win and a 25-16 set four win to, securing the 3-1 win over NGU, their second of the season over the Crusaders. Elizabeth James was once again solid in the middle for the Crusaders serving up 37 helpers, while Hannah Helbert led the Crusaders with 13 smashes.


The Crusaders finished with a .234 hitting percentage in game two. NGU will hit the road again on October 29th with a 7pm showdown at Lees-McRae.
