Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Volleyball team served up a season opening win on Saturday, easing past Voorhees College three sets to zero, closing out the first day of the NGU Invitational.
The Crusaders relied on an accurate service game on Friday, scoring 13 points on service aces. Madison Allen led the squad with four, while Lindsey Elswick offered up three. Rebekah Mayes and freshman Megan Steading each helped NGU’s cause with two aces of their own.
Samantha Del Toro and Yomi Adeyeye, a pair of freshmen, led the attack at the net for NGU. Del Toro, the 5-11 freshman from Simpsonville, South Carolina led the Crusaders with 11 kills, while Kennesaw, Georgia native Adeyeye tallied eight kills.
Defensively, North Greenville was led by another freshman in Codiann Amis, who chalked 15 digs. The Crusaders were solid on Friday afternoon, leading for much of the entire match. The Tigers led briefly in the final set of the day, but several receiving errors and other unforced errors aided NGU in the comeback.
The Crusaders would go on to take the sets by scores of 25-8, 25-7, and 25-16. NGU will be back in action Saturday morning against South Atlantic Conference member Brevard College at 10am. The Crusaders will also play at 12pm and 2pm.
