Central, S.C.- The North Greenville volleyball team continued its road stretch on Saturday splitting two matches in a tri-match at Southern Wesleyan. The Lady Crusaders opened the day with a 3-2 win over Brenau University but fell in the afternoon match to host Southern Wesleyan 3-2.
The Lady Crusaders, who are no stranger to five set matches, started Saturday with a five set win over the Brenau University Tigers. The set scores for the Lady Crusaders and Tigers were 21-25, 26-24, 25-27, 25-9, and 15-11.
Individually in game one, junior Abigail Frame set a season high in assists with 58 while adding 18 digs defensively. Also adding to a strong defensive effort were Kaitlyn Harris who had 17 digs and Madison Allen who had 16. On offense, Rebekah Mayes chalked 18 kills while Kailtyn Pierce led the team with 19.
The Lady Crusaders found themselves in another close match in game two, but were unable to come out on top as they cell to Southern Wesleyan in five sets. SWU won with set scores of 17-25, 25-20, 25-22, 18-25, and 12-15.
Statistically, Mayes led all players with 21 digs in the second game. She also added 11 kills. Pierce led all scores for NGU with 17 kills while Lindsey Elswick and Mayes added three service aces a piece.
After Saturday’s tri-match, the Lady Crusaders 13-15 on the season. NGU will take the court again on October 27 against St. Augustine.
