Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville volleyball team got back on track Friday night as the Crusaders cruised past the St. Andrews University Knights 3-0 to open a three game weekend home stand in Hayes Gymnasium.
The Crusaders never trailed in the first set of the night as they set the tone for the night with a 25-18 win. The Knights seemed to find their stride in the second set however. St. Andrews took a 5-2 lead over the Crusaders and led by as many as four. NGU trailed in the second set 11-10 before Kendra Meeks rattled off three services aces (two consecutive) to give NGU a 13-11 lead. Meeks’ third ace of the second set Put NGU up 15-11.
From that point on, the Crusaders outscored the Knights 10-7 to secure a set two 25-18 win. In the third set of the night the Crusaders put on their most impressive performance of the night. With a 15-9 lead, the Crusader forced a St. Andrews timeout. From the time out on, the Crusaders would outscore the Knights 10-1 to secure their third conference win of the 2011 season.
The Crusaders were strong on both sides of the net tonight, but offensively, Kaitlyn Pierce shined registering 11 kills on just 16 attempts. Rebekah Mayes added 11 kills on 25 attempts while also anchoring the defense with 12 digs. Kendra Meek was solid from the serving stripe notching 4 service aces while Abigail Frame registered 25 assists. The win over St. Andrews puts the Crusaders at 11-12 for the season and 3-8 in conference play.
NGU will continue it's busy weekend on Saturday with a two matches at home. The Crusaders will open with conference foe Coker College at 12pm and will wrap up their home stand at 3pm in a rematch with Clark Atlanta.
