Gaffney, S.C.—The North Greenville volleyball team had its four game winning streak snapped Friday night in Gaffney, South Carolina as the Crusaders fell to the Saints of Limestone 3-0.
The Crusaders fell behind in game one but kept within striking distance of the Saints. The Saints led 9-6 before turning on the afterburners. The Saints outscored NGU 16-7 to take a 25-13 set one win.
The Crusaders came out swinging in set two and took a quick 4-1 lead over the saints after Kills from Lacey Gardner and Kaitlyn Harris. The Crusaders were assisted by two Limestone errors. After falling behind 15-13 the Crusaders clawed back into the match to take a 17-16 lead over the Saints but Limestone proved too strong for the Crusaders. Seven ties and three lead changes later, the Saints posted a 25-21 game two win.
NGU once again sprinted out of the gates in game three to take a 6-2 lead over the Saints. But after the fast start, NGU’s offense sputtered and Limestone charged to an 11-10 advantage. Limestone would finish the match on a 14-6 run to lock up the first conference showdown between the two squads.
Offensively, Kaitlyn Pierce added 10 kills her school record total while Abigail Frame added 22 assists to her career total. Harris once again anchored the defense with a team leading 15 digs. The Crusaders will enjoy a short break before returning to the court on October 11 at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina.
