Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Volleyball Team extended their home winning streak to three games Wednesday night after defeating the Tigers of Benedict College three sets to two.
North Greenville once again played from behind tonight dropping the first set 25-23. The Lady Crusaders bounced back in the second match returning the favor with a 25-23 win.
North Greenville took the lead in the third set with a convincing 25-18 win. The Crusaders looked to win the match in the third set but Benedict sent the match into a decisive winner take all fifth set with a 25-21 win.
The Lady Crusaders would not be deterred however coming up with a 15-8 win in the fifth set to remain un-scathed at home. Anjelica Wilcox led the Crusaders with 21 kills while Rebekah Mayes registered 21 kills and Kaitlyn Pierce registered 14.
Defensively North Greenville was led again by Anjelica Wilcox who had 33 digs. Rebekah Mayes finished with 28 digs. Abby Frame led the squad with 53 assists and Melissa Ragsdale accounted for four serving aces.
“I’m very proud of the way the girls played and persevered tonight,” said head coach Greg Mosely. “This was a good quality win against a good athletic team with division 1 talent. We stepped up and got the job done. I challenged the girls to close tonight and they did an outstanding job living up to the challenge. Hopefully this momentum will carry over into our matches the rest of the week.”
With the win the Crusaders are back at the even mark for the season at 9-9. They will hit the road again Thursday night in Charlotte with a match against Johnson C. Smith University. The time is set for 6:30pm.
