CRUSADERS DROP TWO MATCHES IN STRAIGHT SETS

Anderson, S.C.—On Friday, the Crusader Volleyball team opened the 2010 season with a loss to Anderson and a win over Newberry. The Lady Crusaders were not so fortunate Saturday dropping matches in straight sets to Lincoln Memorial and Southern Wesleyan.

The Crusaders faced tough a tough opponent to open the second day of the Anderson Invitational in Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters cruised to a straight sets win with scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-21. The Crusaders looked to bounce back against local rival Southern Wesleyan in the second match of the day.
The Warriors had other ideas however winning straight sets with scores of 25-22, 25-17, and 25-17.

“This weekend was good experience for our girls. We started out strong against Anderson but we had some service problems and our defensive coverage plagued us a little bit,” said head coach Greg Mosely. “We had a quality win against Newberry and played good fundamentally against Lincoln Memorial and had some leads but we just weren’t able to finish.  Against Southern Wesleyan we came out kind of flat and were plagued by some of the stuff that hurt us against Anderson.”

With the two losses on Saturday, the Crusaders drop to 1-3 early in the season. The team will take the court again Wednesday against Linvingstone followed by a weekend tournament at Montreat.
