The lady Crusaders hosted a tri-match against Columbia College and Newberry College Wednesday night at home in Hayes Gymnasium.
The first game which began at 6 p.m. was a home classic for the ladies this season, but with an unfamiliar ending. As has happened at almost every home match this season, the ladies fought hard pushing their opponents to a fifth set, and like usual the ladies continued to battle from behind in that fifth set, but this time it was not enough with the girls falling short in the end losing to Columbia 3 sets to 2 (25-18, 15-25, 25-14, 15-25, 12-15). Sara Beth White had a “coming out party” of sorts having 8 timely kills for the Crusaders. Kayla O’Kelley also got it going after set one to finish with 7 blocks and 7 kills.
In the second match of the night for the Crusaders, the opponent was a solid Newberry squad, and it showed. In this match the Crusaders could not get anything going as they dropped three straight sets (19-25, 10-25, 18-25). Kaitlyn Harris led with 11 digs in the match, and Anjelica Wilcox added 4 kills.
The ladies next match will be Friday night at Mars Hill.
