TIGERVILLE, SC--Montreat College defeated North Greenville University 3-0 Thursday night in Hayes Gymnasium. Scores for the match were 30-24, 30-19, and 30-25.
"Individually we are playing well, but we are playing as 6 individuals and not as a team," says head coach Lauren Axson. "We have a lack of focus when the game is on the line. We worked on that in practice, but our youth and lack of experience still shows up when the game is close."
Charlotte Swain led the Crusaders in kills with 11, while Caitlyn Cunniff and Amanda Bouchillon each added seven.
Bouchillon and Lauren Hawkins led the team with 28 digs apiece. Melissa Ragsdale had 16 assists, while Beth Lowe led the way with six blocks.
Axson found many positives in the match. "Maegwen Salley showed a lot of improvement in focus, serving several key points in the third game to bring us back from a large deficit," noted Axson.
"Caitlin Cunniff really came on strong attacking wise with several key kills throughout the game. Beth's blocking was the best its ever been and she is showing great strides in her lateral movement as she recovers from a preseasonankle injury . As she gains more mobility she will help us more offensivly as well. Defensively we dug very well, with Lauren and Amanda having a season high 28 digs."
The Crusaders will be back in action Friday and Saturday as they travel to Carson-Newman College for a two-day tournament.
