HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Shona Blades and University of North Greenville's Shekinah Wilder have been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held April 9 - 15, the conference announced today.
Blades, a junior from Glasgow, Scotland, ran a new career-best time in the 3000m steeplechase by nearly 40 seconds at the Phoenix Invitational this past weekend. In her first time running the event this season, Blades notched a first-place finish and moved herself into 5th all-time in the Mount Olive record book. That time is currently the second-fastest in Conference Carolinas, behind her own teammate Leah Hanle, and the fifth-fastest in the Southeast region.
Wilder, a junior from Aiken, S.C., surpassed the 12 meter mark in the triple jump once again at the Beynon Sports Catamount Classic. Her leap of 12.04 meters (39' 6"), good for fourth place in a strong field, was a provisional qualifying mark that places her 8th on the Division II descending order list. She now sits atop both the conference and region standings in that event.
