Track and Field Teams Claim Four First Place Finishers at Blue Shoes Invitational

Greenville, SC-The North Greenville University track and field teams made the short trip to Furman University this past Saturday to compete in the 2013 Blue Shoes Invitational. The Crusaders finished the day with numerous top finishers, including four first place finishers from the men’s team.

The women’s 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Quintella Dollard, Ciara Anderson, Timisty Nelson, and Mercedes Cunningham took third place with a time of 49.56 seconds. Quintella Dollard also did well in the women’s 100 meter dash finishing in fifth place with a time of 12.44 seconds. Dollard and Timisty Nelson finished 9th and 11th respectively in the women’s 200 meter dash. Nelson also placed fourth in the long jump competition. Allison Beam finished in 11th place in the women’s 800 meter run with a solid time of 2:33. Shiobhan Fraser did well in the field placing fifth in the high jump and third in the triple jump. Erin Plumley took third place in the women’s discus throw.

For the men, Ahmad Nesbitt ran a blazing time of 4:03 in the men’s 1500 meter run, finishing in sixth place. Nesbitt also took third place in the 3000 meter run, posting an impressive time of 8:48. Fellow distance runner, Brett Morley, also did well finishing in 13th place in the men’s 1500 meter run with a time of 4:14. The Crusaders had two freshman finish in the top five for the men’s 400 meter dash. Mark Watts won the event, posting a season best 47.74 seconds. Watts also took fourth place in the men’s triple jump. Co-freshman, Jonathon Williams also ran a season best time of 50.49 seconds in the 400 meter dash, giving him a fifth place overall finish. 

Kylan Steinert also ran a season best time of 56.39 seconds in the men’s 400 meter hurdles, good enough for fourth place overall. Jacob Simms and Ravon Wamer continued their success in the men’s 800 meter run. Simms finished in fifth place with a solid time of 1:55, while Wamer took eighth place with an impressive time of 1:57. Freddie Martino took second place in the men’s 200 meter dash posting a time of 22.08 seconds. Martino also finished second in both the men’s long jump and triple jump competitions. The men’s 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Kylan Steinert, Mark Watts, Ravon Wamer, and Jake Simms took first place with a time of 3:23.

In the field events for the men, Jared Watkins won the men’s high jump competition clearing a height of 6 feet and 6 inches, and also finished fourth in the triple jump. Zamardre Wingfield had a good showing, finishing in fourth place for the men’s long jump, and third place in the triple jump. Kreig Lowe won the men’s shot put competition with a throw of 48.75 feet, and finished seventh in the men’s discus throw. Tony Stepney finished in fourth place for the men’s discus throw and sixth in the javelin throw. John Clark took second place in the men’s hammer throw and also finished sixth in the men’s shot put competition. Michael Klein also did well in the men’s shot put, finishing in fifth place, and Justin Bishop finished fourth in the men’s javelin throw.

Head Coach Michael Bayne said, “I am extremely proud of these kids and their performances. We had four first place finishes, and many other top finishers. I’m looking forward to see how we do at Conference next weekend.” The Crusaders will travel to Banner-Elk, NC this weekend to compete in the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Lees McRae College.
