Sumter, S.C. – Both the men’s and women’s NGU tennis teams suffered an early exit from the Conference Carolinas championships on Friday with losses to 5-2 and 5-1 losses to Belmont Abbey and Barton College.
Barton earned the doubles point in the men’s match, taking two of the three games. The Crusaders got a win from Jose Gomez and Will Greaves with an 8-6 victory but the Bulldogs earned wins of 8-3 and 8-5. The women’s team was swept by Belmont Abbey with scores of 8-0, 8-7 (7-5), and 8-6.
Belmont Abbey continued its strong quarterfinals showing in the singles competition taking all but one game. North Greenville lone singles win came from Sjors van Eck who stole a 6-3/6-3 win from Juan Baez.
The women fought to work their way back into contention but the Bulldogs quickly secured the win. The Crusaders lone win came from Graysen Elms who earned a 6-4/6-4 victory over Dana Kelly. Barton earned wins in the second and third sets with scores of 6-2/6-0 and 6-3/6-2 to advance to the Conference Carolinas semifinals.
The men’s team wraps up the season with a 7-14 overall record and a 4-6 league mark while the women finish up with a 9-12 record overall and an 8-3 league record.
