North Greenville swept by Division 1 Wofford

Spartanburg, S.C. – North Greenville men’s and women’s teams fell to Division-I Wofford on Tuesday by scores of 5-2 and 7-0.

North Greenville struggled against the Division-I Terriers who swept double’s play. Christina Keisling and Grayson Elms fell 6-1 in their combos match while Fernanda de Lucca and Kylie Sandusky fell 6-0. Camille Duhan and Faith Moyans also in their tandem match 6-4.

The Terriers would prove to strong for NGU in the singles matches as they swept the Crusaders once again. Keissling dropped a 6-2/6-4 match in the first position while Camille Duhan fell 6-3/6-2 in the two spot.

Other scores for the NGU women included a 6-2/6-0 loss for Fernanda de Lucca, a 6-1/6-0 loss for Sandusky, and a 6-3/6-3 loss for Moyans. Grayson Elms rounded out the women’s scores with a 6-0/6-1 loss.

The men struggled in doubles play as they were swept by the Terriers to start the day. Alejandro de la Torre and Dion Nijbor lost a 6-3 decision while William Greaves and Josh Gomez fell 5-4. Austin Schlarb and Sjors van Eck rounded out the men’s doubles scores with a 6-3 loss.

The Crusaders looked to bounce back in singles play and Sjors van Eck tried to set the tone. Van Eck earned his first singles win of the season on Tuesday as he took a 1-6/6-4/12-10 decision to even the points count.

The Terriers would bounce back to take the second and third position matches with scores of 6-0/6-2 and 6-1/6-1 over de la Torre and Josh Gomez. The two wins gave the Terriers a 3-1 advantage.

Dion Nijbor worked NGU back into the mix with a win in the fourth position. Nijbor downed his Wofford counter part Jack Thomas 6-7/6-3/10-6. Wofford led the Crusaders 3-2 after NGU’s second win.

The Terriers wrapped up the win over NGU in the next two sets however, earning wins in the fifth and sixth positions. William Greaves and Austin Schlarb would both drop decisions by scores of 6-2/6-3 and 6-2/6-0.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will be back in action on February 24th when they host Barton College in the first Conference Carolinas match of the season. First serve is scheduled for 2pm.
