Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Men's and Women's Tennis Teams dropped a non-conference match with USC-Aiken of the Peach Belt Conference today as the men fell 6-3 while the women dropped an 8-1 decision.
The NGU women's team struggled on Wednesday against their Peach Belt Conference foe, as the Pacers were one win away from the sweep of NGU. The Pacers earned a 3-0 lead after doubles play, as the Crusaders could not get anything working on the offensive side of the net. Rebecca Beacham and Maria Vargas dropped the opening game 8-1 while Camille Duhan and Christina Kiessling lost 9-7. UNC Asheville earned the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over Aline Ribiero and Ann Hayden Huxford.
Huxford would go on to earn North Greenville's only win of the day as she won the final singles game 6-3/7-6. Camile Duhan came close to pulling a second win for the Crusaders but lost 6-4/5-7/6-10.
The Men carried a 2-1 advantage into singles play after taking two of three games in the doubles portion of Wednesday's match. Sergio Filho and Jose Gomez earned an 8-6 win while Sjors van Eck and Marcelo Yshikawa earned NGU's second win of the day with an 8-4 win.
The Crusaders got another win from van Eck to open singles play as NGU extended its lead to 3-1. Eck took a 6-3/3-6/10-8 win in his solo game to bring NGU to within two wins of the match victory. The Pacers would go on to take the final five singles games though as NGU struggled down the stretch. The Pacers would go on to take the 6-3 win after taking the 2-6 singles games.
Both the men's and women's teams fell to 7-7 on the season but are still in the race for a Conference Carolinas regular season title. The Crusaders will host Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon at 2pm at Vance Tennis Complex.
