WOMEN'S TENNIS CONTINUES SOLID CONFERENCE SLATE WITH SWEEP OF BELMONT ABBEY

Belmont, N.C.—The North Greenville Women's Tennis Team kept itself in the conference race on Saturday with a convincing 9-0 sweep of Belmont Abbey College.

The win Saturday is NGU's third Conference Carolinas sweep of the season after 9-0 wins over Emmanuel and King earlier in the month. The Crusaders picked up a quick 3-0 lead after doubles play as Rebecca Beacham and Maria Vargas got the day started with an 8-5 win.

Christina Keissling and Camille Duhan took the 8-4 win in their tandem set while Aline Ribeiro and Ann Hayden Huxford cruised to an 8-2 win leaving NGU needing just two singles wins to clinch the conference victory.

The Crusaders would earn the 5 points needed to win very early as Beacham and Vargas won the first two singles spots with wins of 4-6/6-1/10-7 and 6-1/4-6/10-3. Duhan and Keissling would both win 6-3/6-0 and 6-0/7-5 while Aline Ribeiro and Ann Huxford wrapped up the day with wins of 6-0/6-0 and 6-0/6-3.

North Greenville improved to 4-1 in Conference Carolinas play and 6-6 overall. Southern Wesleyan is next for NGU as the Crusaders travel to Central, South Carolina on March 31 for a 2pm first serve.
