Greer, S.C.—The North Greenville women’s tennis team picked up some momentum as it gears up for post season play, sweeping Converse College 9-0, in the final Conference Carolinas match, of the 2014 season.
The Crusaders quickly established dominance in Thursday’s final regular season showdown, sweeping the doubles portion of the day to take a 3-0 lead. Susane Lenz and Maggie Elliott got the day started for NGU, earning a convincing 8-2 win in the first spot. Aline Ribeiro and Rebecca Beacham continued to guild on the momentum with their own 8-2 win while Ann Hayden Huxford and Haley Hardwick completed the sweep with an 8-1 win.
Susane Lenz picked up her second win of the day with the start of singles play, as her 6-4/6-1 win over Marisa Esfomes gave the Crusaders a 4-0 lead. Maggie Elliott ensured the NGU win in the next singles match with a 6-4/6-2 win to clinch the fifth conference win of the season for North Greenville. The Crusaders are now 4-5 in Conference Carolinas play, and have locked up a spot in the conference post season tournament.
NGU continued to pour on the wins as the night wore on. Aline Ribeiro took a 1-6/7-5/10-3 win to earn the sixth win of the day, while a pair of wins from Rebecca Beacham (6-1/6-0) and Ann Hayden Huxford (6-3/6-3) made the score 8-0 in favor of North Greenville. Haley Hardwick capped a solid day on the court for the Crusaders with a solid 6-2/6-0 win in her singles frame over Tanishia Thomas.
The Crusaders will likely enter the league tournament as the sixth seed after Thursday’s win. NGU will travel to Sumter, South Carolina for the tournament on April 25-27. North Greenville is now 4-17 overall on the season.
