NGU FALLS TO ERSKINE IN MIDWEEK CONFERENCE SHOWDOWN
Due West, S.C.—The Crusader women’s tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Conference Carolinas leading Erskine College on Wednesday afternoon, dropping NGU to 3-17 overall and 3-5 in league play.
The Fleet had no trouble with the Crusaders, sweeping through doubles play to take a quick 3-0 lead. Susane Lenz and Maggie Elliot was the only NGU duo to score in the doubles frames, but still fell 8-5. Aline Ribeiro and Rebecca Beacham fell 8-0 as did Ann Huxford and Haley Hardwick.
The Fleet carried their momentum from doubles into singles play. Lenz came the closest for North Greenville forcing a 7-5 decision, but came up short in the end losing 7-5/6-1. Erskine would go on to dominate the singles play as Ribeiro and Beacham both dropped 6-0/6-0 losses, while Elliot, Huxford, and Hardwick all fell 6-1/6-0.
The Crusaders are still poised to make a tournament run despite the loss to the Flying Fleet, currently sitting in sixth place. The Crusaders have one more match against Converse College before preparing for the league post season tournament on April 25-27 in Sumter, South Carolina.
