DIVISION I BULLDOGS PROVE TO MUCH FOR TRAVELING NORTH GREENVILLE
Asheville, N.C.—The NGU women’s tennis team had its hands full on Monday afternoon, taking on NCAA Division I member University of North Carolina at Asheville. The Bulldogs flexed their muscles, blanking the Crusaders 7-0.
The Crusaders took an early lead as Susane Lenz and Maggie Elliott pulled out a closely contested 8-5 decision in the first doubles match of the day. The teams of Aline Ribeiro and Rebecca Beacham and Erin Grimsley and Ann Hayden Huxford both dropped 8-1 pairs frames, earning the Bulldogs the advantage coming out of doubles play.
The Bulldogs carried the momentum from a strong doubles performance into the singles portion of Monday’s non-conference showdown, sweeping the Crusaders to earn the overall shutout. UNCA took a pair of games by scores of 6-0/6-0 as well as a 6-1/6-0 decision. The Bulldogs also overcame the Crusaders in the #1 singles spot 6-1/6-1 and #4 position 6-2/6-1.
North Greenville will look to bounce back on March 26th when the Crusaders welcome Conference Carolinas foe Lees-McRae College to the Greer Tennis Center. First serve between the Crusaders and Bobcats is scheduled for 3pm.
