Gaffney, S.C.—The North Greenville women’s tennis team continued its conference struggles on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Limestone College 7-2 in Gaffney, South Carolina.
The Crusaders started on a high note, as Susane Lenz and Maggie Elliot established a 1-0 lead for NGU with an 8-5 win over Limestone’s Julia Moreira and Mariane Pinate. The Saints would go on to finish doubles play with a 2-1 lead though, after winning the second and third positions, as Christina Kiessling and Erin Grimsley dropped an 8-5 decision and Aline Ribeiro and Rebecca Beacham fell 9-7.
Elliot would also account for NGU’s other win, as she picked up the Crusaders only other point with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 win in her singles frame. Susane Lenz won her first game 6-2, but would lose the next two by scores of 7-6 and 6-0. Ribeiro fell in her singles match 6-2, 6-1, while Beacham and Kiessling dropped games of 6-0/6-2 and 6-0/6-1. Haley Hardwick also dropped her singles game 6-2/6-2.
The loss drops the Crusaders to 1-10 overall and 1-4 in Conference Carolinas play. NGU will step out of conference on Saturday when the Crusaders head to Jefferson City, Tennessee to take on Carson Newman.
