Wilson, N.C.—The North Greenville women’s tennis team continued its early season struggles on Saturday afternoon, falling to Barton College 6-3, in its second Conference Carolinas game in two days.
The Bulldogs took a commanding lead early in the match with a 3-0 clean sweep of the Crusaders in doubles competition. Maggie Elliot and Susane Lenz came up just short in their doubles game, falling 8-6, Christina Kiessling and Erin Grimsley fell 8-1 in their doubles set. Barton completed the sweep of the pairs play with an 8-4 win over North Greenville’s Aline Ribeiro and Rebecca Beacham.
The Bulldogs secured their second conference win over the season, taking the first two singles matches, gaining a 5-0 lead overall. Susane Lenz fell to Smiljana Kljajic 7-5, 6-1 while Aline Ribeiro faltered ina 7-5, 6-1 loss to Ananya Sarkar.
Maggie Elliot would finally find the scored for the Crusaders in the third singles game of the day, as she cruised to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Barton’s Alicia Lasry. Rebecca Beacham followed up the Elliot triumph with a win of her own in the fourth spot, winning 6-3, 6-4 while Christina Kiessling won a third consecutive game for the Crusaders with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Randi Price. Caroline Fischer would close the door on NGU with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Haley Hardwick in the final game of the day.
NGU falls to 1-9 overall, and 1-3 in Conference Carolinas play after Saturday’s loss to Barton. The road doesn’t get any easier for the Crusaders as they travel to Limestone College on Wednesday to take on the Saints.
