CRUSADERS COME UP SHORT AT MOUNT OLIVE

Mount Olive, N.C.—The North Greenville women’s team suffered its second conference loss of the season on Friday afternoon as the Crusaders fell to Mount Olive College 7-2 at Walker Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.

The Trojans swept a very closely contested double’s portion by scores of 8-6, 8-5, and the widest margin of victory of 8-2. The doubles sweep by the Trojans is the second time the Crusaders failed to pick-up a doubles win in Conference Carolinas play.

North Greenville trailed 3-0 heading into singles, and Mount Olive would tack on a few more points winning the first four singles matches. NGU’s Susane Lenz fell in the #1 singles 6-3, 6-3, While Aline Ribeiro (6-2, 6-4), Maggie Elliot (6-1, 6-1), and Rebecca Beacham (7-6, 7-1, 6-0) also dropped their singles frames. NGU’s lone wins of the day came from Christina Kiessling who won 6-4, 7-6, and Haley Hardwick who took a 6-1, 4-6, 10-5, for her first singles win of the season.

The loss dropped NGU to 1-2 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders will continue its North Carolina trip on Saturday when they travel to Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina for a 1pm match with the Bulldogs.
