Greer, S.C.—the North Greenville women’s tennis team continued its difficult out of conference schedule on Thursday, taking on the 12th ranked Francis Marion Patriots. The Crusaders fell to 0-3 on the season after suffering a 7-0 loss, in their first home match of the season.
The Crusaders once again had trouble finding the positive side of the scoreboard, dropping each of its six singles matches. Haley Hardwick put together the most complete match, but still fell to Veronika Viegas 6-2 and 6-3. NGU’s number one Susane Lenz fell to Julia Graf 6-0/6-1 while sophomore Maggie Elliot dropped her set to Samantha Kolliker 6-0/6-0.
NGU also came up short in the doubles pairings, falling in straight sets. Christina Keissling and Aline Ribeiro battled in their pairing but fell short dropping an 8-4 decision, while Rebecca Beacham and Victoria Gomez lost their doubles match 8-2. The Patriots completed the sweep of NGU with an 8-1 win over Susane Lenz and Maggie Elliot, NGU’s most consistent doubles set from a year ago.
The Crusaders will return to the court on Saturday, when they head to North Carolina to take on the Bulldogs of Wingate University. First serve between North Greenville and Wingate is scheduled for an early afternoon start.
