Hartsville, S.C.—The North Greenville women’s tennis team kept its post season hopes alive on March 29th with a decisive 6-3 win over Coker College. The win over the Cobras put North Greenville in the final playoff spot, with four conference matches left this season.
The Crusaders got off to a quick start in doubles competition when Lorena Linz and Maggie Elliot led the day off with a 9-8/7-2 triumph to give NGU a 1-0 lead. Muriel Adib and Aline Ribeiro down their Coker counter parts 9-7 while Rebecca Beacham and Victoria Gomez capped doubles play with an 8-0 shutout.
The Cobras would bounce back and take the first three singles matches to tie the score at 3-0. Lenz, Elliot, and Beacham fell in straight sets, setting the stage for an exciting final three matches. Muriel Adib’s 6-2/6-0 win regained the lead at 4-3 in favor of North Greenville. Haley Hardwick’s 6-0/6-0 shutout in the next game would clinch the conference victory for the Crusaders. Ribeiro wrapped the day up with a second straight 6-0/6-0 win for North Greenville.
The Crusaders improved to 2-5 in Conference Carolinas play with the triumph over Coker and 3-9 overall. North Greenville will welcome the Benedict College Tigers to Greer Tennis Center on Tuesday April 2nd for a 2pm out of conference match.
