Greer, S.C.—The North Greenville women’s tennis team won its first match of 2013, and the first of new head coach Tomas Kurhajec’s career on Friday night with a 9-0 win over UVA Wise, to improve to 1-3 on the young season.

Susane Lenz and Maggie Elliot got the day started for North Greenville with an impressive 8-2 in doubles competition, setting the tone for the Crusaders. Aline Ribeiro and Muriel Adib also cruised in their double’s set with an 8-2 triumph. Rebecca Beacham and Victoria Gomez completed the double’s three-pete with an 8-3 win over their counterparts.

NGU’s #1 Susane Lenz got the momentum rolling in the singles matches by making quick work of UVA Wise’s Brianna Stallard 6-1/6-2, her second singles win of the 2013 season. Maggie Elliot secured NGU’s first win of the season in her singles match, beating Megan Buchanan 6-1/6-1 for the first win of her collegiate career. Aline Ribiero (6-1/6-0), Muriel Adib (6-0/6-1), Rebecca Beacham (6-3/6-0) and Haley Hardwick (6-1/8-10/11-9) finished off NGU’s sweep of the Cavaliers.

The Crusaders, looking to build on their recent success, will host Lincoln Memorial College on February 19th. First serve is scheduled for 2pm at Greer Tennis Center.
