Crusaders Move to 2nd in Conference Standings With Win Over Tornado

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville improved to 6-1 in conference play with a 2-0 win over the King Tornado, allowing them to claim sole possession of second place in the Conference Carolinas standings. After a scoreless first half, a productive second half resulted in two goals for the Crusaders, both of them scored by Shelby Shepherd.

NGU dominated the early minutes in the first half by putting up the first four shots of the match, including a close shot by Karly Denaburg that bounced off the crossbar to keep the match scoreless. Halfway through the first half, North Greenville had five shots recorded while the Tornado posted just two. Late in the half, NGU's Taylor Harvey recorded the final shot of the first half, but that shot would be saved to make the score 0-0 at halftime.

Right after recording three shots within the first ten minutes of the second half, North Greenville would get on the board with a goal by Shelby Shepherd, her second of the season. Ansley Robinson provided the assist. Less than three minutes later, Shepherd would strike again for her third goal of the season to put the Crusaders up 2-0. That goal was assisted by Kayla Cruse. Late in the half, King posted two final shots but North Greenville was able to complete the shutout.

Next up for the Crusaders is an important conference match against the Mount Olive Trojans in Mount Olive, North Carolina on Saturday, October 19th.
