Tigerville, SC - North Greenville suffered a 1-0 loss in a hard-fought match against the UNC Pembroke Braves this afternoon. The match went scoreless until the Braves scored a goal late in the first half. NGU rotated all of the available 23 players to make sure they would be rested and ready for the next day's conference match against King University. NGU put up some quality shots in the second half but were unable to score the game-tying goal. Shelby Shepherd led the Crusaders with three shots.
The first half began with a quick shot by UNCP that was saved by Brianna Rowe. The Crusaders would respond with two shots of their own including a header by Shepherd that was saved. The half remained quiet until the 37th minute when Paula Valbuena surprised everyone with a shot from near midfield to put the Braves on the board.
Things picked up in the second half, beginning with four shots by UNC Pembroke in the first fifteen minutes of the half. Late in the half, Mackenzie Neff nearly tied things up with a shot that hit the crossbar to keep the Crusaders scoreless. This would end up being NGU's final shot of the match as the Braves were able to keep NGU away from the goal for the last several minutes.
North Greenville will have a quick turnaround as they will return to conference play to face the King Tornado tomorrow afternoon in Tigerville.
