Coming off of a successful 2017 season that included 9 wins as well as the program's first ever Conference Carolinas Tournament victory, the Lady Crusaders are ranked in the top half of the 2018 conference preseason poll, just one spot behind their fourth place finish last season. NGU will look to top a .550 winning percentage in 2017, the program's best since 2010. Last season's team also achieved a 6-4-1 (.591) conference record, which is a program best since joining the Conference Carolinas in 2011. A very young team will take the field for the 2018 season with 18 total first-year players, four sophomores, four juniors, and two seniors. Sophomore Brianna Rowe and freshman Annie Miller will both see playing time at goalkeeper.
Asheton Robinson was an all-conference first-team selection as a defender in 2017. She produced offensively as well, recording 2 goals and 16 shots.
Karly Denaburg led the Crusaders with 5 goals and 50 shots in 2017. Three of her goals ended up as game winners.
Michaela Gleed saw significant playing time in 2017, starting all 20 games and leading the team in total minutes played. She scored 2 goals and recorded 17 shots.
NGU will begin the regular season in Tigerville on Thursday, August 30th against the Lander Bearcats. Two additional nonconference matchups will follow before beginning conference play September 8th against the Flying Fleet of Erskine. The Crusaders will face six straight conference opponents before playing the Georgia College Bobcats. Four straight conference matchups will follow before Senior Night October 23rd against the Regent University Royals. Then the regular season will wrap up on the road in Spartanburg, SC against the Converse College Valkyries.
