Crusaders drop heartbreaker to Barton

Wilson, N.C. - North Greenville lost to Barton College today in a hard fought game against the Barton College Bulldogs by a score of 3-2 to give them their fourth loss of the season.

North Greenville struck first when Asheton Robinson capitalized on a loose ball when the keeper left the goal to score unassisted (15:43). Michelle Huddleston finished up the first half without allowing a single goal to Barton on three shots on goal. The Crusaders closed the first half up 1-0 over the bulldogs.

The Crusaders kept their momentum going in the start of the second half as North Greenville’s Tori Owens set up Karly Denaburg to put the ball in the right side of the net (55:26) to go up 2-0 over the Bulldogs. The tides turned on the Crusaders when Barton’s Sarah Tinker (Assisted by Tanya Garcia) scored a goal (73:21) to cut the Crusader lead to one with seventeen minutes left in regulation. BC’s Brianna Boyd went unassisted to score the equalizer (84:52) giving Barton two straight unanswered scores to close out regulation.

In Overtime, Barton would go on to score (92:26) which put the Bulldogs up 3-2 to win the game. Barton score three unanswered goals in a comeback win over the Crusaders.

North Greenville would go on to finish the game with ten shots with six on goal. Asheton Robinson and Karly Denaburg both scored their first goals of the season. Tori Owens also recorded her first assist of the season today. Michelle Huddleston finished the game with five saves in her first start this season put her season total to six.

The Crusaders will travel to Columbia, South Carolina on Tuesday September 20, 2016 to take on the Columbia International University Rams.
