Tigerville, S.C. -- North Greenville dropped their first home conference game of the season Wednesday evening when the visiting Lees McRae Bobcats came away with the 2-0 victory.
The Lady Crusaders found themselves under pressure almost immediately, with junior goalkeeper Maddie Schober being called upon on numerous occasions to keep the game scoreless. While NGU slowly worked their way into the game, the Bobcats’ pressure continued and was eventually rewarded in the 24th minute when Erin Barcal broke through the defense and beat Schober from close range. The first half continued in much the same manner, with NGU creating a handful of chances before they again succumbed to a goal from close range, this time from Allyna Ankney.
The second half saw the Crusaders come out with more intensity, but the higher tempo was not enough to break down the Bobcats defense, and the score-line remained 2-0 for the remainder of the match.
The final match stats saw the Bobcats outshoot NGU 19-5, while also winning the possession battle 59% to 41%. Maddie Schober ended the match with 12 saves for North Greenville, while senior Michelle Huddleston also made one save during her time in net. Lees McRae keeper Alexis Feely made two saves on the night to preserve her second shutout of the season.
With this result, North Greenville falls to 1-3-0 for the season and 0-2-0 in Conference Carolinas play. Less McRae jumps to 2-4-0, with a 2-0-0 conference record. The Lady Crusaders will look to rebound in their next match, when they travel to Barton College to take on the Bulldogs on Saturday, September 17th at 2:00 PM.
