North Greenville Women's Soccer bounced back from their defeat to Furman University by claiming a 1-1 draw in their final exhibition match of the preseason with Ohio Christian University Friday night at Pepsi Stadium.
Junior Alex Pagliaro scored the opening goal in just the fifth minute by slotting the ball home beneath the on-rushing Ohio Christian goalkeeper after being played in by a beautiful through-ball by senior captain Megan Robertson. Ohio Christian quickly struck back in the 11th minute however, as NGU was called for a questionable hand-ball in the penalty box and Lexi Paas converted the subsequent penalty kick. NGU went out to dominate the remainder of the match, outshooting Ohio Christian 17-7 and controlling roughly 64% of the possession, but were unable to break the deadlock.
North Greenville's defense was anchored by the fine goalkeeping of junior Maddie Schober, who accrued four saves on the night and sparked several dangerous attacks with some fine distribution from the back. Ohio Christian's Mekayla Deffenbaugh did well in limiting NGU to just the one goal and was called into action repeatedly, ending the night with 11 saves.
North Greenville has now completed their preseason schedule and have a week to prepare for their opening match of the regular season against Chowan University (NC) on September 2nd. This is a non-conference match and will kickoff at 7:00 PM at Pepsi Stadium.
