Women's Soccer scores four goals in victory over Lees-McRae

Four different Crusaders scored goals on the night as North Greenville topped Lees-McRae in a late-season conference matchup by a score of 4-2.

North Greenville opened the scoring in the seventh minute as Lindsay Tuten passed to Megan Robertson in the box, who was able to beat the Bobcat keeper for the first goal of the game. The Bobcats responded quickly, getting a goal back in the ninth minute to knot the score at 1-1. Lees-McRae's Nikki Torres headed a corner past Crusader keeper Madelyn Schober for the goal. The Bobcats took the lead 24 minutes later when Sarah Mahar put a goal past Schober to make the score 2-1. This time it was North Greenville who responded quickly, as Brittany Waldrep got her first goal of the season to make the score 2-2.

The teams headed to the half tied up, but it was the Crusaders who came out firing when the second half began. Sara Forrester got her first goal of the season to give North Greenville the advantage in the 55th minute. Forrester collected a rebound from a Crusader shot and put it in the back of the net to put North Greenville up 3-2. In the 80th minute, the Crusaders put the game out of reach as Lindsay Tuten scored her 14th goal of the season and made the score 4-2. Robertson assisted on the goal, giving Tuten the ball just outside the box and Tuten finished in the left side of the goal.

Tuten continued to show her excellence, firing eight shots on the night and adding to her conference-leading goal total and adding one assist. Robertson's goal was her second of the season, as well as her one assist on the night. Schober finished the night with 17 saves and held the Bobcats goalless in the second half to secure the win for North Greenville.

The win puts the Crusaders at 7-6 on the season and 3-5 in conference play, while Lees-McRae drops to 4-9-1 on the season and 2-5-1 in conference play.

North Greenville returns to action for Senior Night on October 23 when they take on Southern Wesleyan University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Pepsi Stadium.
