Tigerville, S.C. - The North Greenville Women's Soccer Team earned its second Conference Carolinas win of the season on Friday night with a nail biting 1-0 win over defending league champion Converse College.
The Crusaders controlled the action in the first half, playing most of the game on Converse's side of the midfield line. The Valkyries finished with three more shots than NGU, but Lindsay Tuten would be the only one to find the back of the net, turning a loose ball into a shot just outside the goalie box into her ninth goal of the season.
The tide would turn in the second half as Converse would force the action, putting pressure on the North Greenville defense. The Valkyries would finish with four shots in the second half while NGU put just one shot on goal. The Valkyries came close to tying the game twice as two of their shots went just wide, ricocheting off the goal post.
Converse would have one more shot at an equalizer in the final 20 seconds but a corner kick was cleared by the Crusaders as time expired. Tuten's goal came in the 40th minute of the game. Madelynn Schober played all 90-minutes in the net for NGU, totaling three saves.
The Crusaders improved to 5-5 on the season and 2-4 in Conference Carolinas play. NGU will host Columbia International on Wednesday night at 7pm in Pepsi Stadium.
