Three Crusaders Earn All-Conference Honors
High Point, NC – As announced on Thursday, Nov. 7, the North Greenville women’s soccer program has placed three Crusaders on the 2013 Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams.
Senior defender Cara Woolford earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team after starting 15 of 16 games and anchoring a defense that held opponents to a .127 shot percentage during the season.
Junior keeper Katie Tate was also honored on the All-Conference Second Team, starting 15 games in goal and recording a school-record 94 saves in 1,361:41 minutes played. Tate also finished among the top of the conference in goals against average (1.65) and save percentage (.790).
Freshman Lindsay Tuten rounded out the All-Conference selections for North Greenville with a spot on the Third Team. The Hampton, SC native led all freshmen with eight goals and 17 total points, as she started all 17 games for the Crusaders.
Conference Carolinas announced the All-Conference teams during this week's Conference Carolinas Men's & Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Awards include All-Conference First, Second, & Third teams, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Regular Season Champions. Head coaches from conference member institutions nominate and then vote on the award winners who represent the best of the best for the league.
The conference championships started Monday with the top eight teams qualifying for quarterfinal action. Semifinal play resumes Thursday (women) and Friday (men) with the championship finals on Saturday (women) and Sunday (men). All games are played at the highest remaining seed. The women's tournament champion receives an automatic berth to the NCAA DII championships while the top six regionally ranked men's teams will qualify for postseason play.
