Tigerville, SC – The North Greenville University women’s soccer team ended the Conference Carolinas portion of its schedule with a 2-1 overtime loss to Limestone College on Friday afternoon.
Playing in their third game of the week, the Crusaders jumped on the board early with a header from senior Jade Salle in the 26th minute. Salle netted her second goal of the season on an assist from Franki Jumper to give North Greenville a one goal advantage they held into the half.
The Saints evened the score at 1-1 when Macy Simpson scored a goal in the 53rd minute, forcing overtime. In the extra period, Limestone’s Taylor Sanders placed a ball into the back of the net in the 98th minute to give the Saints the 2-1 victory.
"I am convinced I have one of the best teams in our conference," said head coach Rachel Baer. "I know that is a bold statement considering our record, but no one works harder than my girls. We play like no one has told us what our record is and just don't quit."
Senior goalkeeper Krista Young recorded two saves in the first 45:00 of action, while sophomore Taylor Kelley totaled six saves in the final 53:00 of play as Limestone outshot North Greenville 19-8 in the contest.
"Once again we lost by a one goal margin and we were playing a quality program," continued Baer. " I can't wait to see what we will accomplish next year. I'm so proud of our three seniors, Abby Brack, Leah Ward and Jade Salle, and the leadership and character they have shown this year. They are exceptional young women and it has been a true pleasure to coach them. They will surely be missed."
The Crusaders (1-12-2, 0-9-2) will play their final match of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 23 when they host NCCAA member Palm Beach Atlantic beginning at 4 p.m. in Pepsi Stadium.
