Hartsville, SC – In their third double overtime match of the season, the North Greenville University women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Coker College on Wednesday evening.
Senior Jade Salle scored her first goal of the season on an assist from sophomore Ansley Dobbs in just the 4th minute of play to give the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage that the team held through the half time break.
However, in the 53rd minute of play, Coker’s Baily Van Order assisted Cassie Callahan on a goal to even the score at 1-1.
The tie held through two overtimes, ending in North Greenville’s second draw of the 2012 season.
Goalkeeper Krista Young started her second straight game and recorded four saves in the first 45:00, before Taylor Kelley totaled seven saves in the final 65:00 of play as the Cobras outshot the Crusaders 23-7 in the contest.
“I am once again amazed at the fight and heart my team continues to show,” said head coach Rachel Baer. “This has been a tough season for us statistically speaking, but I still believe I have one of the hardest working teams there is.”
“The fact my girls plays 90 minutes last night and 110 minutes tonight, getting both a win and a tie after a season of losses, reveals how hard they fight,” continued Baer. “I couldn’t be more proud.”
The Crusaders (1-11-2, 0-8-2 in conference) will host Limestone College on Friday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. as they conclude the 2012 season and honors the upperclassmen on Senior Day in Pepsi Stadium.
