Brevard, NC – The North Greenville University women’s soccer team earned its first win of the 2012 season with a 1-0 win over Brevard College in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.
The game was scoreless for the entire first half and much of the second until freshman forward Caroline Baker scored her third goal of the season in the 86th minute of play. Baker’s game-winning goal deflected off a Tornados defender and past the goalkeeper to secure the one goal win for North Greenville.
Senior goalkeeper Krista Young played the first 45:00 of the game and totaled four saves, while sophomore Taylor Kelley recorded three saves en route to the first win of her career by playing the final 45:00 of the game.
“It has been a long time coming,” said head coach Rachel Baer, who earned the first win of her young coaching career. “The funny thing is, this wasn’t our prettiest performance this season. The difference though was we figured out how to finish the game. I am proud of my girls and the fight they have shown all season. It was time for them to get this result and they deserve it.”
The Crusaders (1-11-1, 0-8-1) have a quick turnaround as they play the final game of a two-game road trip against Coker College on Oct. 17 in Hartsville, SC beginning at 4:30 p.m.
