Crusaders Drop Decision To Converse
Spartanburg, SC – In a bid for their first win of the 2012 season, the North Greenville University dropped a 2-1 decision against Conference Carolinas foe Converse College on Thursday night.

After a scoreless first half of action, the Valkyries scored first with a goal in the 49th minute of play from Darby Boyd to gain a 1-0 advantage.

The Crusaders tied the game in the 65th minute with an unassisted goal from the foot of Leah Ward, her second goal of the season, to make the score 1-1 with just under 25 minutes left in regulation.

Converse scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute as Boyd scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Georgia Jones.

North Greenville recorded nine shots in the game compared to 15 shots by Converse as sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Kelley totaled six saves in the game.

“My team fought so hard tonight,” said head coach Rachel Baer. “Quite honestly, I feel like we dominated almost every aspect of the game and we just couldn’t pull of the win. We weren’t quite able to connect the final pass to get a quality look on frame.”

“The effort my girls gave tonight shows the character of my players,” Baer continued. “These girls represent the type of program I want to have.”

The Crusaders (0-9, 0-6 in Conference Carolinas) will end their two-game road trip on Saturday, Oct. 6 as they travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College at Noon.
