Tigerville, SC – The North Greenville University women’s soccer team continued its early season struggles, dropping the 2012 home opener to Montreat College 1-0 on Saturday night in Pepsi Stadium.
After much back-and-forth play throughout the first half and the majority of the second half, the Cavaliers broke through in the 80th minute of play when Lauren Cantin received a pass from Hannah Madsen and gave Montreat the goal it needed to secure the one goal victory.
The Crusaders outshot the Cavaliers 11-7 in the game as goalkeeper Taylor Kelley recorded four saves in the game, bringing her season total to 19 saves in three games.
“I don’t know what to say. It’s another heartbreaker,” said head coach Rachel Baer. “We are playing so well and the girls are doing everything I have asked of them. Once the goals start falling the results will begin to show just how talented and capable we really are.”
The Crusaders (0-3) will have a week to prepare for their Conference Carolinas opener as they host Lees McRae College on Saturday, September 15 at 1 p.m. in Tigerville.
