Gaffney, S.C. – After securing their third conference victory against St. Andrews, the Lady Crusader soccer team dropped its weekend matchup with conference foe Limestone College 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.
"As a team, we need to develop more composure," said head coach Jesse McCormcik. "We will just work on some things and get ready for next week's conference games."
Limestone (6-4, 5-2 in conference) scored its first goal after forward Gabriella Reid scored in the 28th minute to give the Saints a 1-0 lead that was preserved until halftime.
The Saints continued to put pressure on the North Greenville defense and scored four more goals in the second half to hand the Lady Crusaders their sixth loss of 2011. Limestone scored its first goal of the half in the 71st minute by Ashley Alderin-Fleagle. The next two Saint goals came on penalty kicks from Holli Schwartz and Vanessa Jarrett in the 73rd and 78th minutes respectively.
Limestone’s final goal came in the 80th minute off a free kick by Jarrett for her second goal of the game.
On offense, the Lady Crusaders were outshot 21-10 in the game as keeper Regina Ibanga recorded five saves before being sent off with a red card in the 78th minute. Krista Young totaled two saves in the final 12 minutes of play after replacing Ibanga.
The Lady Crusaders (4-6-1, 3-4-1) will end their four-game road trip on Wednesday, Oct. 12 as they travel to Bristol, TN for a 3 p.m. matchup with King College.
