Tigerville, S.C. – Building on momentum gained from beating powerhouse Lees-McRae College last week, the North Greenville women’s soccer team defeated Montreat College 4-0 for the team’s third straight shutout and fourth straight win.
“We played a fantastic game,” said head coach Jesse McCormick. “The teamwork and chemistry on the field was great. We had a lot of energy and movement all over the field.”
The Lady Crusaders were in control throughout the game, outshooting the Lady Cavaliers 7-1 and possessing the ball on their own half for much of the contest.
Leah Ward continued her stellar senior season with two goals in the game. Ward scored her first goal in the 8th minute and her second goal shortly after halftime in the 48th minute on an assist from Hayley Williams. Ward now has 11 goals on the season to lead the team.
Jade Salle, playing with a hyper-extended knee, showed no ill effects of her injury as she scored an unassisted goal in the 69th minute. Defender Emily Pittman pushed up the field to score her first goal of the season in the 71st minute to put the game in the bag for the Lady Crusaders.
After their recent four-game winning streak the Lady Crusaders now sit at 8-5 on the season with three games left. North Greenville will look to build on its late-season momentum on Saturday against Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
