Central, S.C. – Having a week in between games proved to be just the thing the Lady Crusaders needed as North Greenville defeated in-state rival Southern Wesleyan University Saturday night 2-0.
“Everyone came and worked hard for 90 minutes,” said head coach Jesse McCormick. “It was great to get a win against a quality opponent.”
Although the Lady Crusaders were outshot 18-8 by the Lady Warriors, stellar play by goalkeeper Regina Ibanga and a stingy defense led by center backs Abby Brack and Emily Pittman helped to seal North Greenville’s first shutout of the season.
The offense got going in the 33rd minute when Leah Ward scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season and led the team to a 1-0 halftime lead. Midfielder Rebecca Stidham would seal the win for North Greenville with a goal of her own in the second half.
The Lady Crusaders (4-3) will look to build momentum as they take on Erskine College next Thursday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. in Tigerville.
