Lady Crusaders drop heart-breaker in overtime

Atlanta, GA – The North Greenville women’s soccer team was looking for its second straight win Saturday afternoon against Palm Beach Atlantic University on a neutral site in Atlanta, GA. Despite mounting an incredible comeback, the Lady Crusaders fell in overtime 3-2.


“I am very happy with the hard work of all of the player,” said head coach Jesse McCormick. “Overall it was a good game.”


The Lady Sailfish kept goalkeeper Regina Ibanga busy in the first half firing 14 shots at the goal. Ibenga finished the half with seven saves but allowed two early goals as Palm Beach Atlantic lead at halftime 2-0.


Coach McCormick and his players made some key adjustments at halftime and came out of the locker room attacking right away. Hayley Williams two goals in the half to lead the Lady Crusaders into an overtime match with the Lady Sailfish. Williams now has five goals in 2010, which is tied for the team lead.


Palm Beach Atlantic scored within the first minute of extra time to defeat North Greenville and improve to 6-2 on the season.


“Hopefully we will see this team again in the regional playoffs,” said McCormick.


The Lady Crusaders (3-3) will be on the field again Saturday, Oct. 2 against in-state rival Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
