LADY CRUSADERS STUMBLE  IN NCCAA REGIONAL FINAL

Athens, Ga.—Despite carrying a 1-0 lead into halftime, the Lady Crusaders’ soccer team was unable to win its first NCCAA regional title falling to Palm Beach Atlantic 2-1.

The game was tied until the 28th minute when the Crusaders struck first. Junior Leah Ward found the back of the net with an assist from Haley Williams. The goal was Wards team leading 15th goal of the season.   Senior Goal Keeper Jessica Binkley posted three saves in the first half. PBA dominated the stats however registering 14 shots on goal compared to NGU’s 4.
PBA came out strong in the second half scoring in the 48th and 51st minute. The two goals would be all that PBA needed. The Lady Crusaders finished the season with a school best 13-8 record. The Crusaders also made history yesterday winning the first NCCAA women’s regional game in school history defeating Southern Wesleyan 1-0.
Individually the Crusaders were lead by Junior Leah Ward who scored 15 goals, she was followed closely by Hayley Williams with 12 goals. Sophomore Ashlyn Henderson lead the team in assists with 4. Senior goal keeper Jessica Binkley posted 78 saves on the season giving up 17 goals.
