The North Greenville women’s soccer team took its 4-2 record on the road today to take on the Bearcats of Lander University. The Crusaders would drop the game 2-1. Lander (4-1-1) controlled the game outshooting the Crusaders 22-2.
Despite the difference in shots on goal, NGU took the lead in the 18th minute when Hayley Williams scored on an assist from Leah Ward. The Crusaders Held the lead until the 35th minute when Lander tied the game with an unassisted goal. The Crusaders came inches away from taking a 2-1 lead in the second half on a shot from Leah Ward which sailed just over the Crossbar. Goal keeper Jessica Binkley was able to keep the Crusaders within striking range during the game recording 10 saves.
The game remained tied until the 85th minute when Lander would take a 2-1 lead. “It was a tough way to lose” said head coach Jesse McCormick “The girls played hard though and I am proud of the team.” The Crusaders next match will be at home Saturday September 26 at 1pm. The Crusaders hit the road again on October 2nd when the travel to Cleveland, Ga. to take on Truett McConnell.
