CRUSADERS SMOKE OWLS AS WARD TIES CAREER HIGH WITH 4 GOALS

Tigerville, S.C. – In different sports, impressive can have different definitions. In baseball it can mean throwing a no hitter, in football it could mean scoring 50 points, in soccer it could mean scoring eight goals in a 90 minute match.

In that case, consider what the North Greenville women’s soccer team did on Thursday night impressive. The Crusaders took on the Warren Wilson Owls on Thursday simply looking to improve on a 3-2 season record. The Lady Crusaders would do just that scoring 8 goals in the 90 minute contest. Of the 8 goals for the Crusaders, junior midfielder Leah Ward tied her career high with 4 goals.

Ward started the scoring for the Crusaders with an unassisted goal in the 3rd minute of the game. She would score again in the 9th minute with an assist from Ashlyn Henderson, and completed the hat trick with another unassisted goal in the 29th minute. Ward would go on to score her fourth goal in the 88th minute of the game with an assist from Emily Pitman. Leah Ward was not the only player to score multiple goals during the 90 minutes of play. Sophamore Ashlyn Henderson found the back of the net twice scoring in the 31st and 77th minutes of the game.

Junior Hayley Williams added to the total scorin in the 69th and 73rd minutes. The lone goal for Warren Wilson came on a North Greenville own goal in the 35th minute of the game. “It was a great night for us” says head coach Jesse McCormick “Leah had a terrific night but im proud of the team for playing hard and keeping the pressure on the Owls all game”. The 8 goals tonight for the Crusaders tops their season high 7 scored against Converse College on September 3rd. The Next match for the Crusaders September 23 at 4:30pm against Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. The next home match for the Lady Crusaders will be September 26th at 1pm against Tennessee Temple.
