Entering todays game the Lady Crusader soccer team had been tested only once in the young 2009 season. The team responded with a 1-0 victory over a tough Lees McCray squad.
The Crusaders entered Thursday looking for a second season win by beating the Valkyries of Converse College. Not only did the Crusaders come away with the win, the team put together an impressive barrage of scoring. The Scoring for the Crusaders started early in the game when Haley Williams found the back of the net with an unassisted goal 5 minutes into the game. Three minutes later Hayley Williams would connect with Ashlyn Henderson for the Crusaders second goal of the day at the 8 minute mark. Hayley Williams would go on to score two more goals in the 30th and 40th minutes of the game. Ashlyn Henderson found the back of the net one more time during the 90 minute match with a goal in the 35th minute. Other goal scorers for the Crusaders were Daniel Duff who scored at the 34th minute and Leah Ward who scored in the 74th minute. “It was a solid win for us” said head coach Jesse McCormick “Hayley Williams and Ashlyn Henderson had a solid game for us but it was a great team effort.” The Crusaders will continue a 3 game home stand Saturday at 7pm against Southern Wesleyan, and a final home tilt against Brevard College on September 8th.
