WOMEN'S SOCCER SETS NEW SEASON RECORD FOR WINS WITH 2-0 VICTORY OVER TOCCOA FALLS

Freshman Leah Ward (Waynesville, NC) scored two goals and the NGU women’s soccer established a new school record for victories as they defeated Toccoa Falls 2-0 in its final home game on of the 2008 season.

Junior Jessica Binkley (Simpsonville, SC) earned her seventh shutout of the season for NGU.

The Crusaders are now 9-4 on the year and will conclude their regular season with road games Saturday, Oct. 25 at Tennessee Temple (Chattanooga, TN) and Saturday, Nov. 1 at Emmanuel College (Franklin Springs, GA).

NGU was oh so close to a near perfect season as three of its four losses have been by one goal.  The biggest loss was a close 2-0 decision against Lander.

First year head coach Jesse McCormick was elated following the win and is anticipating a post-season NCCAA playoff bid for his young squad.  “We have been very consistent all year and we’ve had different players step up to score goals,” he said.  “Our last two games are very winnable, and we could be in line for a berth in the national championships.”
