Southern Wesleyan defeats Crusaders in NCCAA Regional opener

TIGERVILLE, SC--Southern Wesleyan is one step closer to the National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament. The Warriors defeated North Greenville University 6-1 Thursday in the opening round of the NCCAA South Regional held at Pepsi Stadium.

Southern Wesleyan held a 3-0 lead at halftime after goals by Jackie Tubb (17:00), Christina Webb (34:00), and Katie Sullivan (44:00).

The Warriors added three more goals in the first 23 minutes of the second half. Katla Gudjonsdottir scored at the 57:00 mark, followed two minutes later with a goal from Rosy Escobar. SWU's last goal came from Miranda Kee.

The Crusaders' only goal was scored by Danielle Duff in the 78th minute.

Southern Wesleyan advances to the regional championship to be played Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The Warriors will face the winner of the Palm Beach Atlantic vs. Emmanuel game.
