TIGERVILLE, SC—The North Greenville University women’s soccer team faced off against Emmanuel College Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium. As both teams failed to score in double overtime, the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
The Crusaders jumped on the board early when Crusaders Lauren Graham (Greenville, SC-Eastside HS) capitalized on a free kick from the left side to a wide open Kaeleigh Meara (Greenville, SC-Mauldin HS) who shot it in the upper right corner over the goalie at the 32:50 mark. Emmanuel responded 10 minutes later when Emmanuel’s free kick bounced off Crusader goalie Jessica Brinkley’s (Simpsonville, SC-Hillcrest HS) hand and Emmanuel’s Amber Schnizler rebounded and put it in.
In the second half the Crusader’s delivered early again when they were awarded a penalty kick within seven minutes of the half. Mollie Franklin (Hendersonville, NC-Wake Forest Rolesville HS) punched the ball into the right side of the goal, putting the Crusaders in the lead. Emmanuel responded at the 23 minute mark when Haley Boyce scored from the left side of the goal.
With the game tied 2-2 the game went into overtime. As both teams fought back and forth, neither was able to come up with anything, sending the game into double overtime. The second overtime was scoreless leaving the teams deadlocked at two goals a piece.
The Crusader’s record is 1-6-2, while the Lion’s record is 5-6. The Lady Crusader will be back in action when they host Southern Wesleyan University on October 11.
