Lady Crusaders fall in double OT

TIGERVILLE— The North Greenville Crusaders women’s soccer team lost 2-1 in double overtime thriller as they faced the St. Andrews Presbyterian Knights Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Field in Tigerville, SC.

The game was exciting from the start. St. Andrew’s Kerrie Brown scored at the 30:22 mark when North Greenville’s Jessica Binkley (Simpsonville, SC-Hillcrest HS) came out of the box to make a save. The Crusaders responded when Beth Morgan (Asheville, NC-Asheville Christian Academy), left alone on the left side of the goal, scored at the 32:10 mark.

The second half showed very exciting and intense play. At the 24 minute mark, a St. Andrews player went down with a kick to the face, but recovered fairly quickly. Both teams rallied to scored, but just could not come up with anything sending the game into overtime. Once again, the teams delivered great play, but came up empty. As the second overtime began both teams were very tired, yet determined not to give up. St. Andrew’s Brown delivered once again and scored at the 6:24 mark in the second overtime.

The Knights improved to 1-4, while the Crusaders fell to 1-5. The Lady Crusaders will be back in action when they travel to Anderson University on September 18.
